Courts listed on CourtSource per 100k residents

Courts listed on CourtSource per 100,000 residents, by state. Population from U.S. Census Bureau, Population Estimates Program (Vintage 2023, July 1, 2023). Vermont ranks highest at 90.82 listed courts per 100k.

Read this as listing density, not a ranking of where the sport is biggest. Small-population states rise to the top here because a modest court count divides into a small denominator — and because directory coverage varies by state. It reflects courts we currently track per resident, not total real-world supply.

Methodology

What the data is. CourtSource maintains a directory of U.S. pickleball and padel venues. Every statistic on this page is computed directly from that live database at build time and refreshed at least once every 24 hours.

How counts are derived. Venue and court totals include only active, non-deleted venues located in the 50 U.S. states or the District of Columbia. Court counts sum each venue's recorded court total; indoor/outdoor splits use per-venue indoor and outdoor court fields.

Cost to play. The drop-in cost distribution is computed only from the 3,086 venues whose fee field contains a structured, parseable dollar amount in a plausible drop-in range ($1–$200). Venues listing “free,” “varies,” membership-only, or unparseable fees are excluded — we do not estimate or impute missing prices. Each venue contributes its lowest listed drop-in rate.

Per-capita rankings. Courts per 100,000 residents use resident population from U.S. Census Bureau, Population Estimates Program (Vintage 2023, July 1, 2023). Population is the only external dataset used on this page; all court and venue figures are our own.

Metros. Metro totals aggregate venues in the cities that make up each metro area in the CourtSource near-me metro layer; cross-state metros (e.g. New York and Washington, D.C.) merge their component cities.

Refresh & corrections. Figures update automatically as the directory changes and are reviewed quarterly. Last computed July 27, 2026. Questions or corrections: info@courtsource.us.
